The Vaguely Familiar Modern Quilt Guild Logo

The Modern Mood Quilt Logo has always seemed vaguely familiar but I couldn't really put my finger on why until Latifah Saafir, aka The Quilt Engineer, posted a comment about her take on the Revolution vs Evolution of the Modern Quilt. As a post script she added,

I don’t know if you know it or not but, it was one of your quilts that was used as inspiration for the Modern Quilt Guild logo! Check out Jane’s post here about it.

Color Study 306 ~ Inspiration

Well I had no idea, but was thrilled to hear that Color Study 306, shown above, was the inspiration for the Modern Mood Quilt logo. So here's a story about my inspiration for Color Study 306. It all started in 2006 when I moved into a new studio at Northgate Presbyterian Church in Durham, NC. I didn't have the money to replace the floor when I first moved in, so for several months I had to put up with a butt-ugly, green-blue carpet. Excuse my french but I'm very sensitive to color and I couldn't get a lick of work done in that studio. I finally decided to go with the flow and make a quilt to match the carpet.

The inspiration for the Modern Quilt Guild Logo came from a quilt, inspired by an ugly carpet. This strikes me as funny and it makes me think about the nature of inspiration.  If you've ever been inspired by something less than "beautiful" please do tell.
