Celebrating Improv Quilter Carole Lyles Shaw

I was saddened to hear the news that my friend and fellow improv quilter Carole Lyles Shaw passed away. I first met Carole at Quilters Take Manhattan and then again when we shared a serendipitous dinner at Quiltcon in Nashville the following spring. As fellow improvisors we had lots to talk about, and we continued our conversations on improv and professional goals throughout the years. I'm so thankful we had a chance to zoom and catch up just a few days before her death. My heart goes out to her husband, family and friends.

Carole had a love and passion for improv quilting and I greatly appreciated her unique approach, influences and style. Her commitment to and presence in the Modern Quilting community uplifted and inspired many. Here is a video replay of Carole's guest presentation at a Making Do online workshop in 2021. As you can see Carole had a way of getting folks thinking and connecting!

I just feel sad and will miss Carole’s presence in the quilting community, as a friend and colleague. Thank you Carole for being you 💕✨
